The Book Of Numbers is a book by the mathematical genius Shakuntala Devi, and it demystifies numbers and their usage to a great extent for people who are scared of them. The book is divided into three parts. The first part in this book deals with numbers entirely. The second part talks about interesting facts and anecdotes regarding numbers and mathematicians. The third and final part sets out some simple equations and tables that can be used for everyday functions, in all walks of life. Numbers and calculations trouble many in their everyday lives. This book addresses the apprehension that people chiefly face in using numbers during the course of their workday. Numbers are essential for many purposes and most jobs and tasks cannot be carried out without such numbers, calculations, and functions.

Shakuntala Devi, popularly called the Human Computer, was born in Bangalore on November 4, 1939. Hailing from a less fortunate background, she began doing card tricks at the age of three, and soon her ability to play with numbers was noticed. She later demonstrated her skills in mathematics in the University of Mysore and Annamalai University, and also performed in various universities around the world, exhibiting her ability with numbers.
