Matrix Algebra by K.M. Abadir and Jan R. Magnus

Matrix Algebra Price 26.99 Pound

Matrix Algebra is the first volume of the Econometric Exercises Series. It contains exercises relating to course material in matrix algebra that students are expected to know while enrolled in an (advanced) undergraduate or a postgraduate course in econometrics or statistics. The book contains a comprehensive collection of exercises, all with full answers. But the book is not just a collection of exercises; in fact, it is a textbook, though one that is organized in a completely different manner than the usual textbook. The volume can be used either as a self-contained course in matrix algebra or as a supplementary text.

Linear algebra permeates mathematics, perhaps more so than any other single subject. It plays an essential role in pure and applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, and many aspects of physics and engineering. This book conveys in a user-friendly way the basic and advanced techniques of linear algebra from the point of view of a working analyst. The techniques are illustrated by a wide sample of applications and examples that are chosen to highlight the tools of the trade. In short, this is material that the author wishes he had been taught as a graduate student.
Roughly the first third of the book covers the basic material of a first course in linear algebra. The remaining chapters are devoted to applications drawn from vector calculus, numerical analysis, control theory, complex analysis, convexity and functional analysis. In particular, fixed point theorems, extremal problems, matrix equations, zero location and eigenvalue location problems, and matrices with nonnegative entries are discussed. Appendices on useful facts from analysis and supplementary information from complex function theory are also provided for the convenience of the reader.
The book is suitable as a text or supplementary reference for a variety of courses on linear algebra and its applications, as well as for self-study

    Book Summary of Linear Algebra

The present book is intended for the advanced level undergraduate, and postgraduate students, in mathematics and other disciplines, who need a comprehensive knowledge of linear algebra. It can also be a reference source for teachers, looking for detailed proofs of results, given in elementary books, without proofs. The linear algebra is developed over a field. The first chapters are devoted to basic concepts of matrices, abstract vector spaces, linear transformations and determinants. The other three chapters discuss various canonical forms of matrices, inner product spaces, sesquilinear forms, and bilinear forms. The book contains detailed proofs of various results; these proofs may or may not be discussed by a teacher, depending upon the course being offered. The further elucidate the material in the book, a large number of examples and remarks are given.

Linear Algebra A Geometric Approach (Paperback) by Kumaresan S

Book Summary of Linear Algebra A Geometric Approach

This clear, concise and highly readable text is designed for a first course in linear algebra and
is intended for undergraduate courses in mathematics. It focusses throughout on geometric
explanations to make the student perceive that linear algebra is nothing but analytic geometry
of n dimensions. From the very start, linear algebra is presented as an extension of the theory
of simultaneous linear equations and their geometric interpretation is shown to be a recurring
theme of the subject. The integration of abstract algebraic concepts with the underlying
geometric notions is one of the most distinguishing features of this book—designed to help
students in the pursuit of multi-variable calculus and differential geometry in subsequent courses.
Explanations and concepts are logically presented in a conversational tone and well-constructed
writing style so that students at a variety of levels can understand the material and acquire a
solid foundation in the basic skills of linear algebra.

Linear Algebra And Its Application (Paperback) by David C. Lay

Book Summary of Linear Algebra And Its Application

Linear algebra is relatively easy for students during the early stages of the course, when the
material is presented in a familiar, concrete setting. But when abstract concepts are introduced,
students often hit a brick wall. Instructors seem to agree that certain concepts (such as linear
independence, spanning, subspace, vector space, and linear transformations), are not easily
understood, and require time to assimilate. Since they are fundamental to the study of linear
algebra, students understanding of these concepts is vital to their mastery of the subject. Lay
introduces these concepts early in a familiar, concrete R n setting, develops them gradually, and
returns to them again and again throughout the text. Finally, when discussed in the abstract,
     these concepts are more accessible

Linear Algebra And Its Applications (Paperback) by Gilbert Strang

This book not only covers up (practically all) basic concepts of Linear Algebra but also educates the reader its applications to Optimization, graph theory, game theory, etc. This book should be a primer to anyone who wishes to pursue subjects related to Computational sciences, Operational Research, or any topic in Computer Science and Applied (or Abstract) Mathematics. Prof. Gilbert Strang with his method of communication really motivates the reader to pursue Algebra and read about subjects not covered in detail in this book.
